American Idol: The Girls, Mutts, and Colors

5 Mar

Tonight, the American Idol girls stepped it up, but they are still not as good as the guys. I agree with Simon on that point.

My favorites of the night were Amanda Overmyer (vast improvement over last week), Carly Smithson (the girl who can do no wrong), and Brooke White (she’s growing on me a lot). Amanda toned down her look (which I think is borderline ridiculous) and finally found her groove. Carly sang one of the most annoying songs ever, “I Drove All Night” (especially Celine Dion’s version), but you can’t argue with the fact that the girl has talent. Brooke sang a subdued, unplugged version of “Love is a Battlefield,” and she did a good job on it. She’s the standout of all the blonds.

Asia’h Epperson had to sing first, and she was cute and fun, but she sang a Whitney Houston song, and she does not have a Whitney Houston voice. Ramiele Malubay did a pretty good job with Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now).” It wasn’t the best performance of the night, but it wasn’t the worst. She came off a little shy. During her performance, Danny Noriega was wearing her glasses. The are so BFF, it’s TMTH. They are Disney channel cute, these two.

Sayesha Mercado ended the night with another Whitney song, “Saving All My Love for You.” Hers was the better one. The only thing the judges had to say was “good.” Each of them said that one word, and only that one word, as their critique. I think they ran out of time with all the incoherent rambling about mutts and colors and the like. Sayesha got the shaft a little bit because she received neither praise nor constructive criticism for her performance. Ryan needs to tighten up the reins.

Who’s probably going home: Kady Malloy and Kristy Lee Cook (or possibly Asia’h). Kady had a much better vocal this week than last week, but she lost all her personality, which was the only thing that saved her last week. She nailed the big notes, but I don’t think it was enough. Kristy Lee Cook is not a bad singer. She’s just a little boring (same thing that happened to Alaina last week). I didn’t really like the country route she took with the song. It wasn’t really all that country.

There you have it, folks!

P.S. – We were supposed to “stay tuned after the show for the most shocking Moment of Truth yet.” Isn’t every Moment of Truth the most shocking yet? Why would anyone ever go on that show? It’s like a train wreck on so many levels. You don’t want to watch, but it’s hard to turn away.

    Laura!

Yeah, I didn’t think Kristy Lee Cook’s performance was very good at all. If the voting were based on last night alone, it should be Kady and Kristy. But we shall see…
