Proud Moments

19 Mar

I just came across a post on MySpace from a kid, well he’s 20 now, that I met on a mission trip to Mexico.  When I was a Freshman in college, I went on a spring break mission trip to a small village in Mexico with my friend Kim’s church.  This kid, Brian, was a Freshman at the time.  Since Kim and I were the only “cool college kids” on the trip, a lot of the kids looked up to us, imagine that, and felt comfortable talking to us about many things.  From the beginning of the trip, we could tell that he was dealing with a lot of spiritual issues, and everyone really encouraged him.  Throughout the week, the youth had devotional nights where they shared and encouraged each other.  There were a couple kids there who were kind of on the fence, and Brian was one of them.  There were also a few really strong Christian leaders in this group of youth.  Throughout the week, I was able to witness these kids ministering to each other, while we were working with the mission team in Mexico.  On the very last night we were there, Brian accepted Christ and decided that he wanted to live his life for HIM.  It was such a wonderful moment for me because he was one of my kids, and it is such a joy to witness one of your kids go through the process of accepting the Lord.  It is even greater to see that four years later they are still on the righteous path.  I want to share with you his post because I am so proud of the man that he is becoming.

So you spend your whole life, everything you got into one overall purpose: To be happy. We buy cars, we buy appliances, we buy women/men..etc… yet it seems its never enough. Our IDEAL concept of happiness is something intangible and out of our grasp because what we truely desire is on that next step we are heading to. Many people desire various things (money, power, sex, drugs, love, attention…etc..) but why is it when we finally obtain our desires that we relize its not enough? It boils down that the human nature is enveloped in greed. We have a greed/want/need to be recognized by our world. Whether it is the to be known for being the best or being the worst.

In the following I’m going to discuss the Christian Bible in relation to these problems. Whether you read to whole thing or close the browser right now is YOUR choice. But I plead you to read the following. Besides what can it hurt to read for a couple minutes?

In the Book of Genesis man fell. By Satan’s hand, Eve was told of a knowledge that would she would be like God.And all she had to do was eat a fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. (3:4) But the thing is, God already told Adam and Eve to NOT eat from this tree. This was a direct command from God but greed drived Eve to take that bite. A greed to be by like God. Before the fall Adam and Eve we’re perfect. No sin had penatrated any part of there lives. Yet God’s perfect creation (human) wanted more and we still do today. But now we are born into sin by this greed of our first. No man, no woman deserves to receive an eternal life because of this one act of greed/sin. We are all doomed to Hell by our own nature.

Now lets fast foward from the Genesis account about 4,000 years. This was the time that God changed salvation for us. God sent His Son Jesus Christ. Now Jesus Christ was not just a man but far more. His own blood, his own body, and his own life was a salvation for us that are cursed into a well-deserved Hell. THIS IS THE SIMPLEST GOD COULD MAKE IT FOR US!!

1. He sent His Son to live in a world full of sin. (John 3:16)
2. Jesus lived in this world yet NEVER sinned.
3. Jesus was rejected by the world and sent to die.
4. Jesus was crucified and his own death was the atoning sacrifice that covered the intial and prior sins in our life.  (John 3:17)

(John 3:16-18):

16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

So God did this for us. Why? Because regardless of the sin that fills our life God LOVES US!!  And because He loves us he wants us to be with Him.

1 John 4:7-10:

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

How do we obtain this FREE gift? Simple. Believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son. Accept Him as your Savior from sin and enternal damnation. And Believe that he died for your sins as a perfect sacrifice.

Thats it. Simple.

So right now you have choices but only one matters in the long run.
WILL YOU BELIEVE AND LOVE GOD FOR HIS FREE SALVATION?

Will you chose to reject this and curse yourself to Hell?
or
Will you chose to accept this and receive eternal life?

Time is short in our lives, we never know when it will end. Albert Einstein once said, rather or not there is a God, it’s better to know Him rather than be wrong.

Yes, it is better than the other “options.” But you gotta admit, it was fun to have everyone “guessing,” and it was great to see everyone again! I promise, I’ll get over to T-town soon.
